The magnet isn't what wrecks your paint. The grit under it is.
Drop a magnetic mount on a dusty roof and you've made a grinding disc. Every corrugation, every bit of vibration, every time you slide it to line it up — that dust gets dragged across your clear coat under serious clamping force. By the time you notice, it's a ring of swirl marks.
These go on first. Magnet goes on top. The film wears instead of the paint.
What they are
The same film detailers wrap bonnets in — clear polyurethane paint protection film — cut into 90mm discs to sit under a magnetic mount foot. Tough, optically clear, doesn't yellow, and made to peel off later without damaging what's underneath.
Set of 4. Most Starlink Mini magnetic mounts have three or four feet, so one set does one vehicle.

Painted steel roofs, bonnets, tailgates, canopies and toolboxes. Fine over an existing wrap.
Fitting
- Wash and dry the spot, then wipe it with isopropyl alcohol. Skip this and the adhesive won't key.
- Peel the backing.
- Lay the disc down from one edge and smooth outward with your thumb. Push bubbles to the edge.
- Leave it 6h before loading the magnet on.
- Wipe the top of the disc before every mount. Grit on the film is still grit.
Comes off with a bit of heat from a hairdryer and a slow peel. Any residue cleans up with isopropyl.
Straight up
These are consumables. On a truck that lives on gravel you'll go through a set or two a year — that's the point. The film cops it so the paint doesn't.
They stop new damage. They won't fix a roof that's already marked, and they don't make the mount grip harder. Aluminium, fibreglass or glass roof? A magnet won't hold at all — you need a steel mounting plate, not these.
