A Narva plug hanging off the back of a canopy on a loop of cable. An Anderson connector cable-tied to a rail. A surface-mount bracket screwed on at an angle, three years of UV exposure gone chalky and cracked. Somewhere in there, a bit of gaffer tape.
It works. Right up until it doesn't.
The problem with how most rigs handle plugs
Trailer plugs and Anderson connectors were designed to be plugged in and unplugged. They weren't designed to live outdoors, unsupported, for the life of the vehicle.
When a plug dangles on its cable, three things happen:
The cable takes the load. Every corrugation, every washout, every gate you swing open — the weight of the connector is pulling on the terminals. Pins loosen. Contacts arc. You get intermittent trailer lights, and you chase the fault for a weekend before you find it.
Water gets in. A hanging plug points every direction except down. Dust and water sit in the contacts. On the east coast that's corrosion. Out west it's dust packed so hard you can't get the plug seated.
It catches on things. Scrub, gear, your own legs. A connector proud of the panel is a snag point, and eventually something rips it off.
Surface-mount brackets fix the dangling, but they trade one problem for another. They stand proud of the panel, they're usually cheap plastic that goes brittle in the sun, and they still leave the connector exposed.
What a flush mount panel actually does
A flush mount panel is a plate that sits into the face of your canopy, drawbar, toolbox or trailer — not on top of it.
The connector body recesses into the cutout. The face of the plug sits level with the panel. Nothing hangs. Nothing protrudes. The cable enters from behind, so the strain is taken by the panel, not the terminals.
Then you add Anderson cutouts alongside it, and the whole 12V side of your rig lives behind one plate: trailer lighting, solar input, DC-DC charging, accessory circuits. One location. One clean face.
That's the whole idea. It's not complicated. It's just done properly.

Which configuration do you need?
Start with your plug type, then count your charge circuits.
7-pin or 12-pin?
7-pin flat is standard trailer lighting — tail, brake, indicators, earth. If your trailer or camper runs lights and nothing else, that's your plug.
12-pin flat adds five extra circuits on top of the 7-pin layout. Electric brakes, reversing lights, and a high-amperage 12V feed for battery charging, fridges, or auxiliary gear. Most modern caravans and any camper with a battery system run 12-pin.
If you're not sure, look at the plug already on your rig and count the pins.
How many Anderson slots?

You can upgrade later without re-cutting
On the 7-pin range, the 1-slot and 2-slot panels share the same plate footprint. The single Anderson sits centred; the double is stacked in the same outline.
That matters more than it sounds. Cut your canopy once for the 1-slot panel, and if you add a DC-DC charger or a second solar input two years from now, the 2-slot panel drops straight into the opening you already have. No re-cutting a hole in a finished canopy. No filling and re-sealing. Swap the plate, run the extra cable, done.
So if you're not sure how far your 12V build is going to grow — start with what you need now. The upgrade path is already there.
Not all plastic panels are the same
This is where most cheap mounts fall over, and it's worth understanding before you buy one.
The bargain-bin printed parts you'll find on marketplace listings are usually run in whatever filament was cheapest. That material softens at around 60°C — and the inside of a black canopy through a Queensland summer gets well past that. The part sags, the cutout distorts, and your plug no longer seats properly.
The other common option handles heat but degrades under UV. Twelve months of direct sun and it chalks, yellows and cracks around the stress points — usually right at the mounting holes, which is the worst possible place for it.

Fitting one
Straightforward job, about twenty minutes.
- Pick your spot. Somewhere accessible with clearance behind for the cable. Rear canopy face and caravan drawbar are the two most common.
- Mark and cut. Use the panel as your template. Mark the cutout and the fixing holes, then cut with a jigsaw or hole saw depending on the material. Deburr the edges.
- Test fit. Panel in, plug seated, before you commit to anything.
- Seal and fix. Run a bead of automotive sealant around the back of the panel flange, then bolt it down with the stainless hardware. On aluminium canopies, use a nylon washer or a smear of lanolin between the stainless and the alloy to stop galvanic corrosion.
- Wire and seat. Terminate your plug, seat it in the cutout, done.

Common questions
Does the panel include the Narva plug?
No. The panel and stainless mounting hardware only. Most people already have a plug, or want to choose their own. Buying the plug separately from an auto parts store usually works out cheaper than a bundled kit, and it means you're not paying twice for a connector you already own.
Does it include Anderson connectors?
No — the slots are cutouts sized for standard 50A Anderson SB50 connectors. You supply your own.
Will it fit my canopy?
It fits any flat panel you can cut — aluminium, fibreglass, steel, composite. Check you've got clearance behind the mounting point for the cable run.
What about water?
The panel is designed to seat with sealant behind the flange. Sealed properly, water runs off the face rather than pooling in the connector. It's far better than a hanging plug, which points wherever gravity leaves it.
Can I get a custom configuration?
Yes. If you need a layout that isn't listed — different plug type, unusual slot arrangement, specific mounting pattern — send through what you're after.
