Take the Mini away from the van.

Clip it on the back, walk to the ridge, the beach, the top paddock. No cable run to the vehicle, no generator, no 240V. Just the dish and a battery shaped to fit it.

Be honest with yourself first — do you actually need this?

If your Mini lives on the roof of the van and you're parked up, you don't want this. You want a booster at $65, running off the caravan battery you already own. It'll run the dish all week, not five hours.

This is for when you're away from the vehicle. Dish on a tripod chasing a clear patch of sky. Fly-in fly-out. Backup when the van battery's flat. That's the job.

And it doesn't need a booster. Most batteries put out 12V, and the Mini won't hold a steady connection on 12V — which is why people end up buying a step-up converter as well. This one outputs 15–21V DC direct. Straight into the dish. Nothing in between.

How to use it

Clip the pack onto the back of your Starlink Mini. Run the short DC cable from the pack to the dish. Press the power button. That's it.

The screen tells you what's actually happening — charge percentage, and live watts, amps and volts on both the DC and USB-C rails. Not four green LEDs guessing.

Charge it from any USB-C PD source, 45W max. A laptop brick, a decent car charger, or a solar panel with USB-C PD out.

⚠️ One at a time: when the DC output is powering the Mini, the USB-C port stops working. Running both can interrupt power to the dish. Charge your phone when the dish is off.

How long will it run my Starlink Mini?

About 4–5 hours of real use. The maths: 99Wh, less conversion losses, against a Mini drawing roughly 15–20W depending on firmware and how hard it's working. Idle it'll go longer. Streaming hard, shorter. Anyone quoting you one exact number is guessing.

Can you run a Starlink Mini off a battery pack at all?

Yes — but most people get it wrong the first time. The Mini wants 15–48V. A standard 12V power bank doesn't hold enough voltage, so the dish drops out or won't start. This pack outputs 15–21V DC, which is why it works without anything in between.

How big a battery do I need for a Starlink Mini?

Depends on how long you need it. The Mini draws roughly 15–20W, so a 99Wh pack gets you about 4–5 hours. Double the Wh, roughly double the time. 99Wh is the sweet spot because it's the biggest you can legally take on a plane.

Do I still need a booster?

Not with this. It puts out 15–21V straight to the dish. The booster is for running off your vehicle's 12V battery — a different job. Most people touring end up with both: the booster for when you're parked, the pack for when you're not.

Can I take it on a plane?

99Wh is under the 100Wh carry-on limit most airlines apply. It has to travel in your carry-on, never checked luggage — that's the rule for every lithium pack. Check with your airline before you fly. Their call, not ours.
